“Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -Romans 5:1 |
We write this newsletter amid encouraging news! The students for Cohort #8 were notified in mid-April regarding their acceptance into the program. There will be 12 men beginning the cohort this August, embarking on their four-year journey. The new students shed tears of joy, with a couple of them letting us know how proud their mommas would be of them. As Cohort #8 gets started, we will have the students in Cohort #5 preparing for their last two terms. The seniors, scheduled to complete their journey at the end of this calendar year, are already exhibiting “senioritis.”

We received encouraging news from the leadership at Fox Lake. They are interested in working with our senior class on a program entitled BRAVE: Beginning Restoration and Victim Empowerment. BRAVE is a completely voluntary program that incorporates restorative justice values and cognitive-behavioral based learning. Many of the objectives will center around victim impact, the ripple effect of criminal behavior, and learning how to move forward. Our seniors would be trained by a staff social worker, then be moved to other housing units to do their work. This comes at a great time, as one of their final classes is a senior seminar/practicum. They will get credit for the class as well as be trained for the future!
Student Snapshot
Our student this month is a senior named Sandy. He will be finishing his classwork at the end of December this year. An intense man, he has always driven himself to do the best that he can to “honor the folks who believe in me enough to donate their money and prayers”. Already looking forward to life after school, Robin worked with him to submit a proposal to the leadership at Fox Lake about a program that would utilize Trinity graduates to care for other incarcerated men. The proposal was well received by the leadership team, and they have invited Robin and this student to further discuss what the program could look like. Prayers that this would be successful to not only help our graduates utilize their educations in a more focused manor, but offer care to those who are incarcerated in new ways!
Join us in Prayer -For a smooth transition for those men who currently do not reside at Fox Lake Correctional as they are moved from other institutions around the state before our fall term -That we finish the Spring term well (last day: June 9th ) and that we have a strong Summer term which starts July 2nd -One of our graduates is dealing with a cancerous tumor in a bone. . .prayers that they can start treatment soon, that it is operable, and that he will be healed Thank you for your continued prayer, partnership, and generosity. |
